In an effort to help you avoid travel complaints, Tradewinds Vacations invites you to discuss some of the many ways you can prepare before your trip. One complaint discussed by travelers is the issue relating to travel scams and scam artists in many of the most popular destinations. Travel scam artists know where the most travelers go and by spending time in these crowded areas, they can more easily take advantage of the unsuspecting tourist. Although travel scams in these destinations are generally not much more common now than they were in past years, it is still in your best interest to know what to look for and ways you can avoid the most common scams before you go. Here are just a few more of the many ways you can avoid travel scams on your next vacation. Know what to look for and make the most of your next journey.
Pickpockets – By far one of the most common scams around the world is the well known pickpocket. Though it is certainly easy to fall victim to this type of complaint, there are some ways with which you can prepare and do your part to avoid this issue when you travel. The top ways you can prepare include:
Blend In – Don’t flaunt your wealth. If you look like you have money, then you become a target. In addition, if you look like a tourist you will also likely become a target. Do your best to look like everyone else and avoid becoming a target.
Be creative – Do not simply put all your money in one spot on your person. Instead, avoid putting your wallet in obvious places and also divide it up to avoid having it all taken at once should you become a target.
Airport Taxis and Taxis in General – Make sure you only take taxis which are well marked taxis. This is especially important in areas you are not familiar with. In addition, know how far away your hotel is and already have your reservations booked in foreign destinations so that you know how long and where you will be staying. Other scams often include “taking you for a ride”. Ask your driver in advance how much it will cost to get to your destination and only pay this amount.
By far the best way to avoid any and all travel scams is by simply paying attention and knowing what to watch for. So often, we simply get caught up in the novelty of a new area and become easy prey. Watching out around you for people acting suspiciously is a good way to avoid becoming a victim. It is also important that if you do fall victim to a travel scam such as these or others when you travel, that you report it to the authorities right away.
Tradewinds Vacations hopes you have the best vacations possible and wishes that you avoid all complaints when you travel. Avoid scams by knowing what to look for and what to avoid, and make your vacation one worth remembering.
