Outdoor Fun In Arizona

Just on the border of the states of Arizona and Nevada, those in search of an outdoor haven have to look no further than Lake Mead. Part of the National Park Service, Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers year round opportunities for visitors to boat, swim, fish, hike, or simply just explore.

In an area which can see temperatures reaching into the triple digits in summer, this area is a welcome respite from this overwhelming summer temperatures, however, you do not have to wait for that to happen in order to enjoy the area of Lake Mead.

Created in the early 1900’s, Lake Mead is actually just a dammed area of the mighty Colorado River. Part of the Hoover Dam area, this area is home to some of the most well known and popular recreational areas in the world today including not only Lake Mead, but also the Hoover Dam and the world famous Grand Canyon as well.

Exploring The Area

Though some people do come to Lake Mead to hike and explore as it is quite beautiful, it is more generally known for its water based recreational opportunities. Millions of visitors come to the area to relax and take a break from the soaring summer temperatures including not just swimming and boating but kayaking, canoeing, water skiing and some of the country’s best sport fishing. Dramatic and beautiful, Lake Mead is a top destination for travel in the American Southwest for good reason.

Hours and Tips For Travel

Open year round every day, the Lake Mead Visitor Center is open from 8:30 to 4:30 daily except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years day.

Tips

Never leave your pet in a vehicle.
Always wear sunblock
Average temperatures range from 45 in winter to over 100 in summer.
